In 1940 the Rev. Walter Foster
of Calabar High School assisted by Doris Morant of the Ministry of Education
organized the "Young People's Department".
The Youth Department of the Old Harbour Bay
Circuit of Baptist has the responsibility of providing the youth of the churches
opportunities for Christian fellowship, nurture, service, and witness through
the various Youth Fellowships.
This Department has the responsibility of
providing the youths of the church with opportunities for Christian
fellowship, Nurture, Service
– This is one of the arms of each of the Churches in the circuit,
which seeks to: -
Encourage fellowship among young people,
Enlist the young people in the work and witness of the church,
Inspire witnessing among the youths,
Involve young people in the worship life of the Church,
Provide a forum for the discussion of issues of interest to young and
Ensure that leadership training is offered to young people.
In order to achieve these aims, the Youth
Fellowship relates with the Youth Department, which has overall
responsibility for the coordination of youth ministries in the Church.
Fellowship meets weekly under the leadership of an executive committee and
relates through the Youth Department, with both Youth Affairs Committee and
the Christian Education Department of the Jamaica Baptist Union.
Camps, Conferences and Retreats
The promotion of camps, conferences and
retreats will be done to have high points in yearly activities for greater
impact on youths.
Plans and proposals for getting together
young people who are early teens or pre-teens for meetings on Saturdays have
been realized. The objectives of the Youth Fellowship meetings of knowing
God, each other and themselves better are similar, but the varied activities
will be done at a level appropriate for this age group (say 10-15
